Sports meet for cops begins

Udupi, Dec 17, 2015: The police personnel in the district are actively taking part in the three-day annual sports tournament organised by the District Police Department which started in the city from Wednesday.

Various track events, cricket, volleyball and other competitions are being held as part of the tournament. Jayalaxmi serving at Ajekar police station in Hebri told Deccan Herald that it is a unique experience.

It gives respite amid heavy schedule which involves too much of pressure. It is an occasion for the get-together of the police personnel from other sub-divisions. Only a few policemen have been chosen for the tournament as not all policemen can take part owing to the responsibilities. The one who participates this year will not get the opportunity in the coming years, she added.

She said the selected ones will start training themselves from September.  The event helps to develop sportsman spirit. The joy of victory or the fear of losing is not important. It is the participation with other colleagues gives us pleasure, she added.

Head constable Vishwanath attached to Shankranarayan police station said he is actively taking part in the sports activities in his 24 years of service. He said the talent should be supported and encouraged, as they can go ahead to reach greater heights.

He said the sports has been given priority and added that he has contested at master athletes tournaments and also at international track events. He observed that extra time should be devoted for sports focusing on the talents.

Hucchirappa S D from Kaup police station and Rithesh from Ajekaru police station said they are having good time keeping themselves faraway from all the pressure. Sports helps to relax and go back to work with extra vigor, they said.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony Superintendent of Police Annamalai said  Udupi police are the best sports persons across the State next only to Bengaluru city police.  The sports helps to keep oneself fist and healthy to work under pressure, he added.

The sports tournament was inaugurated by Manipal University Pro-Chancellor Dr H S Ballal on the occasion.
