’Automobile skill enhancement centre’ at Govt. ITI opens

Mangaluru, Dec 23, 2015  : An Automobile Skill Enhancement Centre, sponsored by Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, was inaugurated at the automobile workshop of Government ITI (Men) at Kadri Hills in the city on Dec 22.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd’s,  DGM Service (Training) D B Ranjit, inaugurated the workshop,  he said the company has set up the centre with an objective to train the students in new developing technology in automobile industry. Training will be imparted to students for four to five days in a month covering both theory  and practical aspects. Industrial visit of students to dealer workshops also will be organised. Complete industrial exposure will be part of the programme for the students covering service, manufacture and sales. The company will also appoint an exclusive trainer at the training centre, he added.

The ITI faculty will also be provided training at nearest Maruti Suzuki workshop and the training centre. The performance of trainees will be evaluated and they will be awarded a ’Certificate of Training’ on clearance of final test.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) among the company, Government ITI, Department of Employment and Training and Mandovi Motors Pvt Ltd , Mangaluru, has already been signed in this regard, he said.

In accordance with the MoU, the company has provided modern tools, equipment and contemporary training aids, including a K-10 car, Hydraulic Jack, Battery Hydrometer, Digital Multimeter, Digital Tyre Pressure Gauge, 52500 K AC Recovery Unit and other 39 equipment to the ITI, worth of Rs 23 Lakh. With this, the automobiles, which is one of the flourishing industries in the country, will be fulfilled of its need for the skilled manpower, he expressed hope.

He said that the company plans to establish skill development centres in Gurgaon and Bengaluru in which the best candidates will be engaged.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Karnataka Regional Service Manager, Kawaljeet Singh said the company has associations with 86 government ITIs in the country. In Karnataka, it has tie-ups for the establishment of training centres at six ITIs, among which, automobile skill development centres will be opened in three ITIs. One has been established in Mysuru and Mangaluru is the second centre in the State. Within 15 days, the third centre will be established in Davanagere, he added.

Department of Employment and Training Divisional Joint Director P K Nagaraj, Mandovi Motors Pvt Ltd Director A Sanjay Rao, Bharath Auto Cars Pvt Ltd Managing Director Sudhir M Pai, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industries President Rammohan Pai Maroor and District Information and Publication Officer B A Khader Shah were present.

Government ITI, Kadrihills, Mangaluru, Principal and Deputy Director Giridhar Salian presided over the programme.
