National chess championship for the blind.

Udupi : As per a media note, Manipal University and the Udupi District Chess Association will host the first National Open FIDE rated Chess Tournament and National B Chess Championship for the Blind for the Dr. T.M.A. Pai Memorial Trophy,  from December 26 to 30.

 This is the first time Udupi is hosting this championship.  H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University said both the events carried a prize money of Rs. 3 lakh and Rs. 70,000, respectively, and would be held simultaneously at the Dr. T.M.A. Pai Hall of Kasturba Medical College. Cash prizes would be given to best players in the above 60 and 70 categories. A total of 350 players have registered for the tournament and 132 for the National B Blind championship.
