Mangalore Today News Network

Mulki, Dec 26, 2015 :  With work on widening of the road in progress in Mulki town, the vehicles have to ply even as the work is in progress. The increase in density of vehicles, along with the work on four-laning of the National Highway 66, disrupted the movement of vehicles on the highway for two hours on Dec 25, Friday.

The travel time to reach from Hejamady checkpost to Kolnadu is normally10 minutes. Vehicles were stranded on this stretch of road due to traffic jam for a long time. The police as well as home guards had a tough time in managing the traffic.  The density of vehicles on the road has increased in the last one week as the work on the highway is in progress.

Vehicle drivers say that closure of a few stretches unnecessarily has aggravated the situation. The road has been closed though no work has been taken up near Ayyappa Gudi and Billava Sangha building, they said.

"As the (national highway) work is in progress, dust has increased.  The authorities should have taken precautionary measures to check the number of vehicles on the stretch.

The density of vehicles on the stretch increased with the festivities at Sri Venkatramana temple at Mulki and Christmas celebrations. Following the traffic congestion, the road users from Udupi to Mangaluru were seen travelling via Manchakal- Kinnigoli-Kavoor.
