Mangaluru, Jan 02, 2015: The beer sales from Karnataka Excise Department and bars too claim that beer is more in demand among the young who down more beer than hard liquor. In other parts of our land hard liquor is the norm, in Mangaluru beer has been top choice, one point could be the unusually hot climate.
At least 12,03,475 cases of Beer have sold from April to November (eight months) in 2015. In the fiscal year 2014-15: 17, 26,636 cases, 2013-14: 16,28,705 cases while in the year 2011-12 only 13, 68, 487 case were sold. "Beer is popular among youth due to Mangaluru’s warm humid weather. Chilled beer or cocktails are better accepted, said one knowledgeable source in the city.
The Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Dakshina Kannada said that other reason may be preferences that are shifting from hard liquor to beer. Sales of beer are expected go to shoot up November till April 2016.
Some youngsters said that beer is considered as light drink and consumed without adding anything. A student, who prefers beer said Liquors need to be mixed with water or soda but beers do not require anything. A cold beer in hot weather is just the prescription to cool off.
