Mangaluru, Jan 12, 2016: The state government on Jan 11, Monday released Rs 34 crore to land owners whose land was acquired for extension of runway at Mangaluru airport at Kenjar near here.
The state government had acquired the land in 1990 for the above said purpose. However, the land owners approached the court seeking higher compensation and the court directed payment of Rs 34 crore as compensation while disposing off 77 cases filed in this regard.
DK DC Adoor B Ibrahim said the district administration had submitted a proposal to the state government for sanction and release of this compensation amount. Peeved at the delay on part of the state government in disbursing the compensation in time, the land owners had moved the court again, this time seeking attachment of immovable assets of the land acquisition officer - the assistant commissioner, Mangaluru sub-division.
