Pulse polio drive on Jan 17, Sunday

Mangaluru, Jan 13, 2016 : District Health Officer Dr Ramakrishna said polio drops will be administered to children below the age of five years at a pulse polio mass immunisation drive in Dakshina Kannada district on January 17, Sunday.

He said booths will be set up to administer polio drops to children all over the district. Health and Asha workers will visit the houses on January 18 and 19 in rural areas to administer drops to the left out children. In urban areas, the health workers will visit the houses on the fourth day as well, he said.

The DHO said the district has achieved 98.97 per cent target in the second phase of campaign in 2015.

The target for the district is 1,15,790 children in rural areas and 53,157 in urban areas. The total number of booths in the district is 921, including 736 in rural areas. A total of 3,828 vaccinators will be deployed in the district. To monitor the vaccinators, a total of 128 supervisors will be deployed. The district will have 18 transit points which includes those set up near temples, marriage halls to administer the polio drops. A total of eight mobile teams (three in rural areas and five in urban areas) will visit the migrant labourers who reside beside the road in various parts of the cities, colonies to ensure that all the children below five years are administered with polio drops, Dr Ramakrishna said.
