Canara Engg students build ’Hurricane’ for racing

Mangaluru, Jan 22, 2016: ’Hurricane’, all-terrain vehicle designed by students of Canara Engineering College, Mangaluru, is all set to participate in the national-level Baja Student India 2016 vehicle race.   The contest will be held at Buddh International Circuit, Noida, from January 21 to January 26, 2016.

The Hurricane was designed by a team of 30 mechanical engineering students within a short span of six months, using modern techniques and skills. ’Hurricane’, which has a top speed of 50 kph can easily climb hills, steps and can move in up and down. The vehicle – with a 305cc 10Hp petrol engine, coupled with CVT having pneumatic suspension – incorporates imported components. With specifications like 60” wheel base, 62” track width, ride height 12” and weight of 240 kg, the Hurricane is also capable of pulling weights.

The project was executed by a group of enthusiastic budding engineers under the guidance of Dr Krishna Prabhu, head of the Department of Mechanics, along with assistant professors Naveen and Prashanth M V.

The Competition  : ’Hurricane’ is among the four participants from the State and among two from Dakshina Kannada district. A total of 60 teams are competing in the final round at national-level this time.

On the occasion of the National Youth Day celebrations, the all-terrain vehicle was unveiled by the College governing body honorary secretary M Ranganath Bhat and college correspondent M Padmanabha Pai.
