Mangaluru, Jan 28, 2016: Recently, several labourers were arrested for various crimes committed, but as the contractors failed to comply with the order, the police were unable to prepare a list of such labourers.
As per police orders issued a year back, contractors in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have to provide complete details of labourers employed from other districts and states to the nearest police stations; strict legal action will be taken if they failed to do so.
It is said that there were agents who supplied the labourers. The contractors directly post the labourers to their respective work places without a proper background check. Due to this, the labourers who committed crimes have escaped from one place and are working in other places. The agents operate at Mangaluru Junction and Mangaluru Central railway stations with help from agents in other districts and states.
In a bid to decrease crimes, the police in both the districts have decided to take strict action against the agents and contractors who fail to abide by rules.
