Udupi, March 6, 2016: Speaking at a meeting with farmers at the zilla panchayat, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Priyanka Mary Francis said the flower auction centre in Udupi would be converted as a model farmer service centre.

The CEO said the flower auction centre is built at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore and would be used to offer good services to the farmers. There are 16 stalls in the centre and it includes the facilities of rest rooms for the farmers, auditorium, warehouses and canteen, she added.

The ZP CEO said there is no sufficient production of flowers to convert the centre entirely as the flower auction centre. The flower auction activities take place in other areas of the district also and it is not possible to shift them to the flower auction centre at Doddannagudde. Hence, the centre would be used for other purposes to serve the farmers, she stated.

She said that out of the 16 stalls at the centre, there are stalls on the information for cultivating jasmine flowers, Campco, KMF, Hopcoms, horticulture and agriculture equipment expo and sale services, fertilizers’ sale, horticulture growths, ATM for farmers, minor irrigation unit and a mini library on agriculture activities.  She said that cold storage unit would be set up and stalls would be available for low rent.
