Mangaluru : Months after mistakes in degree certificates issued at the 33rd convocation tarnished the image of Mangalore University, the university so far has not come out with details on how it happened and who were responsible for it. The then Registrar (Evaluation) had announced on July 26 that an internal inquiry had been initiated into the incident. Later, a three-member committee was constituted as per the direction of the Syndicate.
The university, which should have maintained transparency in issues related to students, has not made it known whether both inquiries were taken up or not. It was also not sure whether the university has wrapped up the issue or whether it was still on.
When there was no clarity on what happened to the internal and external inquiries, K. Byrappa, Vice-Chancellor, announced through a press release here on Saturday that “a high-powered committee” had been constituted to look into the discrepancies in the results of undergraduate examinations conducted in December, 2015.“…I have constituted a high-powered committee to look into the errors, mistakes and discrepancies if any in the result of and sort out the problems within 10 days…” the release said. Meanwhile, the errors in degree certificates issued last year were many.
The certificates did not mention the ‘A’ grade accreditation to the university by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The word technology was missing in the certificates issued to science graduates. The spelling of Syndicate was mentioned as ‘Synidcate’. The date 17 was mentioned as ‘17 h’ instead of ‘17th’. The font size used to mention the faculty under which the doctoral degree was awarded was so small that it was difficult to read with bare eyes. According to the university, 325 certificates had been issued on the convocation day.
The certificates pertained to BA, B.Sc., B.Com., BSW, M.Sc., MA, MSW, MBA and Ph.D.
