Udupi, March 31, 2016 : Speaking at a two-day training camp organised for the cooperatives on the administrative maintenance and efficient financial transactions held here recently. The Karnataka State Cooperative Credit Societies’ Federation President Shekhar Gowda Veerupaksha Gowda Mali Patil said the cooperative sector will play a major role in the future.
He also said the present scenario calls for an assessment of the role played by the cooperative sector as the nationalised banks and other banking sectors pose severe challenge for the cooperative sector banks.
He said the cooperative sector employees should update themselves constantly on ongoing changes to encounter challenges. They should be trained for administrative competence, he added.
The administrative board and CEO of the cooperative sector are two important fractions, whose efficiency would ensure success for the cooperative sector, he said.
Federation director S L Bojegowda stressed on the urgent need for retrospection among the cooperative society’s over their support to the agricultural sector. The nationalised banks lend 2-3 per cent loan to agricultural sector and cooperatives provide 30-35 per cent loan to the sector. Supporting agricultural sector is important for the survival of the cooperative banks. If the cooperative sector fails to support the agriculture, the scenario would be gloomy in the days to come, he said.
He said farm fields will become commercial entities if farming activities are not supported. He observed that there should be hundred per cent reach out to the farmers and SHGs for the empowerment of the farmers and women.
Gowda said the internal audit should be compulsorily held in order to evade financial complications.
