Hakki-Pikkis escaped from jail reveal truths about community

Karkala, Mar 31 2016: Two under trials-Kala and Babruvahana had escaped from Hiriyadka sub jail couple of months ago and the police who were tracking them down unearthed some crucial information about the status and standard of Hakki-Pikki tribal community, that has been living in this region and has earned the notoriety for being involved in several theft cases.  Hailing from the Hakki-Pikki community, the two were serving jail for theft.


After the two went missing, the police worked to nab them and raided Hakki-Pikki settlements in the area and unearthed crucial information. They also keep close tabs on the old offenders from the same community and thus Ananda was traced.  Ananda has several theft cases against him and was a close relative of Kala and Babruvahana.

During interrogating in to this case, the police found that most of the Hakki-Pikki community members possessed ornaments which were disproportionate to their meager earnings.   Living in tents and thatched houses, almost every Hakki Pikki evoked a sense of suspicion due his standard of living.  It is learnt that the Hakki Pikkis were involved in several theft cases during 2010 to 2015 and  the stolen ornaments were never sold or melted by them.

They instead kept it in their possession and took it out only when there is financial crisis.  However, Ananda, Rathna and Madhura- notorious thieves from this community were nabbed by the cops and have been produced before the Court.  Hailing from Chikkamagaluru, these community members have been living over the last several years at Himmanje.
