Mangaluru, April 20, 2016: Speaking to media Karnataka Karmikara Vedike said that it will stage a demonstration outside the deputy Udupi DC’s office to set right the errors and chaos in sand extraction.  The  Vedike’s Ravi Shetty said artificial scarcity of sand is created in the district.

Sand shortage problem is mounting everyday due to the arrogance of the district administration. The validity for the sand mining licence was over on January 21 and the district administration has failed to renew the licence. This shows the lackadaisical approach of the district administration, he charged.

Shetty said sand mining was going on as the government did not want to be a victim of public fury during the taluk and zilla panchayat elections. However, it was banned in the district after the elections. All these anomalies have resulted in rampant illegal sand mining activities, he claimed.

He added that people who are into the construction work are facing a lot of trouble.  A protest will be staged if the district administration fails to facilitate the sand mining. A protest rally will be taken out on April 22 from Clock Tower.
