Mangaluru, May 09, 2016: In the after math of a popular folk world at the guthu mane (traditional house) at Pilikula Nisargadhama, the most sought-after tourism destination in Mangaluru, the authorities are now planning an open air museum for Tulunadu culture and heritage.
The authorities are consulting with folk experts to set up ’Horangana Janapada Vasthu Sangrahalaya,’ which will showcase sculptures, artefacts and various articles used in ancient Tulunadu society. The Janapada Loka, a traditional heritage museum opened inside the Guthu Mane, has several artefacts of Tulunadu. Meanwhile, the new proposed open air folk museum will be an additional attraction in Pilikula.
Executive director of Nisargadhama S A Prabhakara Sharma told media that the open museum proposed outside the guthu mane will enliven the Tulunadu traditions through collection of various artefacts and sculptures. "There are several folk treasures in Undivided Dakshina Kannada that can be displayed outside the guthu mane. A meeting of folk experts from the region including scholar B A Vivek Rai will be held to finalise the proposal," Sharma said.
The Janapada Loka in the guthu mane has several attractions including life-size models of Yakshagana and Bhootaradhane characters, various veshas of Thenku Thittu and badagu Thittu yakshagana forms.
