Mangaluru, May 18, 2016: According to official information from the Mangaluru Tahsildar, at least 30 areas in Mangaluru taluk, including some in the city, are found to be prone to flooding.
A meeting convened by DK DC Adoor.B. Ibrahim to review preparedness to face monsoon emergencies and its implications, the Tahsildar said that Kasba Bengre, Pandeshwar, Hoige Bazaar, Bokkapatna, Jeppinamogaru and Bajal Kudpu areas in the city are prone to flooding.
The DK DC asked all Tahsildars of the taluk to prepare an action plan to tackle monsoon woes. They should have contact numbers of all those required in relief operations on hand. It included numbers of boat owners, swimmers and crane owners.
He said that compensation to people for rain-related damage should be disbursed within 24 hours or within a maximum of three days after the incident. The DK DC asked the Forest Department to assist MESCOM in cutting branches of trees likely to fall on power supply lines. He said that a drive to clear sources of larve causing vector-borne diseases should be taken up especially in urban areas.
A Home Guard official sought boats, especially in Kukke Subrahmanya and Uppinangadi, for relief operations during floods. Toll free numbers for people to contact for assistance were announced. The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to receive phone calls from people and treat them as very important.
