Mangaluru, June 03, 2016: It is stated that Dr. Shivaram Karant Pilikula Nisargadhama will have one more added attraction for tourists as work on the proposed urban-eco park will commence from today, June 3, Friday.
Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology B. Ramanath Rai will launch the works of the two-year project.
According to Rajashekar Puranik, Environment Officer, KSPCB, Karnataka State Pollution Board, Dakshina Kannada, the urban eco-park will be a place where visitors would be enlightened on eco-friendly living in an urban area through various models. It will come up on 10 acres. According to the detailed project report, it will require Rs. 17.56 crore to complete it.
The government has now released Rs. 2 crore to the nisargadhama for the project’s launch. The amount was part of the Rs. 5 crore which will be given to the project from the board. The park will have a green house, models of major industries, models of rain water harvesting and ground water re-charge, preparation of compos from waste.
Industrial models explained how industries manufactured raw material and how they controlled pollution. The park will have a common effluent treatment plant, sewage treatment plant, live model of solar energy production, other models on non-conventional energy production.
It will have an environment museum. There would be a centre to enlighten visitors on climate change, weather and cleanliness of air. According to S.A. Prabhakara Sharma, executive director of the nisargadhma, there will be a children’s park with entertainment.
Director Sharma said that the nisargadhama has written to the government to sanction an additional Rs. 10 crore for the project. This rainy season would be used for planting saplings of Western Ghats species in the project area as the project involved creating a medicinal garden. The urban eco park would come up next to Arboretum. The project has been designed in such a way to create awareness among children and senior citizens.
