Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, June 11, 2016: Reports state that the Headmistress of Gunashri Vidyalaya in Siddakatte who had asked for the photocopy of English answer paper of student Raksha, who was one among the 39 students appeared for exam, noticed that a difference of 20 marks in re-totalling  " Raksha’s answer script totals to 81 marks but the examiner has mentioned 61 and awarded 61 marks.

Further thorough verification of paper, we noticed though student has written correct answer for 13 questions but she has not given marks for it," she said. Student now has only one option: either to re-total or revaluation. "We are going for re-totaling," she added.

Other students and parents learnt about the discrepancies, they too demanded photocopies of answer scripts. "To our dismay, 17 other answer scripts too had same mistakes. They have not awarded marks for questions  even after writing right answers," she added.

To avail photocopy of the answer scripts and revaluation/ recalculation student has to pay Rs 300 and Rs 700 respectively. The amount is refundable in case of errors in examination papers. For revaluation/calculation, education department accepts only if there are six marks difference and above. "Because of the valuation mistake many students have missed distinctions."   Last year too similar incidents occurred where student named Prajwal Gatty was awarded 27 marks more in social paper after recalculation.
