Mangaluru, June 14, 2016: It is reported that in the wake of many complaints from local activists and public, Mangaluru city police have started cracking the whip on dozens of massage parlour that are involved in illegal activities in the city. In the recent two raids, police have rescued eight victims and arrested several others running the business.
"The police raids from past several years to curb the mushrooming of such parlours which run flesh trade in residential areas by branding themselves as massage or spa parlours," said Muneer Katipalla, state president of DYFI. According to him, around two years ago, there were around 35-40 such massage parlours operating in the city and most of them were involved in illegal activities but, they were closed after the police crackdown.
He said that again they have become active in this business from the past six months and it is supported by influential people, politicians; despite the raids and arrests still illegal activities are spreading. M Chandra Sekhar, city police commissioner revealed that during the raid they have come across many cases of trafficking of girls from the lower section of the society. "Many who hail from the north east and other regions are lured with the promises of giving good jobs, later they are forced into flesh trade here. However, there are no minors found so far he added.
