10-year-old child drowns in pit in Udupi

July 07, 2016: It is reported that a  10-year-old boy drowned in a pit at Kelarkalabettu, which comes under Malpe police limits, on July 6, Wednesday.  He had slipped in a paddy field and was washed away in a storm-water drain into the pit.

According to the Malpe police, the boy, Pawan, was going to his grandmother’s house to play. He was walking on the narrow pathway in the midst of the paddy field when he slipped and fell into the storm-water drain.

When his relatives could not trace him, they called the Fire and Emergency Services, who traced his body to the pit.  A case had been registered at the Malpe police station.
