Manipal, July 16, 2016: Addressing the members of Manipal Toastmasters Club at the installation ceremony here, Additional Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhana said instant messaging has ruined the ability to communicate effectively.
He said, "Communication is an essential and very important human need. The young generation is so used to short codes that they have forgotten to communicate in right manner. Instant messaging has ruined their communication skills. The youngsters are growing up with the idea of communicating only using animated faces n emoticoms. Toastmasters can inspire the younger generation to communicate more effectively."
He also said the club to take up good projects, especially to train school and college students in communication and leadership skills. Toastmaster Club’s newly inducted president Prof Chetana Maddodi shared the year-long plan of the club.
"The club will provide a supportive and positive environment where members have the opportunity to overcome their fear of public speaking and sharpen presentation skills," she said.
She also mentioned that club would organise workshops in schools and colleges of the vicinity so that the knowledge gained and skills acquired by the members in Toastmasters can be shared with the community. The sessions would include how to face interviews, how to communicate with confidence, etiquettes, and leadership skills
