ZP set to review dilapidated school buildings

Mangaluru, July 16,2016:  The Dakshina Kannada district administration has begun a survey of dilapidated school buildings which are in need of urgent repair.   After the collapse of a classroom wall at Government Higher Primary Girls’ School in Yamkanmardi near Chikkodi, which killed two students and injured eight, the administration ordered a survey of all dilapidated school buildings that need urgent makeover. "The survey and final report is expected to be ready in one or two days," said P I Sreevidya, chief executive officer, Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat.


Walter H D’Mello, DDPI, says that the district administration has been undertaking repair works in every taluk, utilizing the local MLA fund and that last year several schools were repaired.   CEO Sreevidya said, "This year the work will be taken by utilising zilla panchayat funds," she said. The issue was discussed at the ZP standing committee meet, based on reports submitted by DDPI."
