Transfer of excess Udupi teachers opposed

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, July 20, 2016: It is reported that Primary School Teachers and  SDMC, School Development and Monitoring Committee members have opposed the government’s move to transfer excess teachers in primary schools.  The teachers and SDMC members gathered in front of the Government PU College, the centre for counselling, and opposed the process.

The student-teacher ratio fixed by the government is unscientific. The number of students admitted last year has been considered by the Education Department, which is not a wise move, they said.

The government school at Olakadu has a strength of about 600 students. If the excess teachers are transferred, the children of daily wage workers would be adversely affected, SDMC President Nagabhushan Shet said.

Hosmutt SDMC member Prakash Shetty too opposed the new system. In the school, there are 32 children and three teachers, as per the government rule, other two would be transferred. Then, parents shift their wards to private schools, he said and added that the government seems to have taken the decision with an intent of favouring private schools.

The primary school teachers have submitted a memorandum to Minister Pramod Madhwaraj.  The minister has assured them of speaking to education minister in this regard.  There are around 280 excess teachers in the district.
