SJEC earns laurels at SAE Virtual Baja 2016, South India level

Mangaluru: Reports indicate that students of  SJEC, St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor has secured the first place in South India and 18th overall in India in the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers)  Virtual Baja 2016, a national level competition. The students representing ’SAEINDIA SJEC Collegiate Club’ participated in the event, which is also a pre-qualifier for renowned BAJA SAEINDIA Event. In SAE Virtual Baja, teams representing different colleges from across India take part to present design of their ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) virtually.

Teams compete to ensure that a fictitious firm manufactures their design, which should meet fixed standards of SAE, that is design and manufacture a car that is reliable, safe, ergonomic, maintainable and if manufactured, achieve economy on scale. Event was held in Indore on July 23. Dilish J Lobo, Vikas, Roger M Pereira, Glen L Pinto, Devaiah M S, and Brison S Pinto, final year students from mechanical engineering department represented the 28-member SAEINDIA SJEC Collegiate Club.

The results of the competition were released recently and SJEC team secured first rank in South India and 18th rank overall in India. With this, the team has qualified for BAJA SAEINDIA event and has begun the process of fabricating the team’s unique design. The knowledge gained during the design process and the hands-on experience in the fabrication of the car will enable the students to be industry ready and employable with strong entrepreneurial skills college principal stated.
