Mangaluru, Oct 6,2016: Speaking to the media, Urban Development Authority chairman Janardhan Thonse said, Thenkanidiyoor First Grade College will organise university-level sports competitions from October 6 to 8 at Ajjarkadu District Stadium, Udupi. As many as 1,000 players are expected to take part, besides 250 differently-abled players, along with 150 judges and 100 volunteers, in the three-day event.The international and national fame players including Darun, Anu Raghavan, Srinith Mohan, Ranjith Patel, Anurup Jan, Bharat, Kantilala and Meenakumari are expected to take part.
The event will be inaugurated by the Sports and Youth Empowerment Minister Pramod Madhwaraj. Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa will preside over the programme. Udupi-Chikkamagaluru parliamentarian Shobha Karandalje will be the chief guest on the occasion, he added.
The winners for the first three positions will be given awards and runner ups for fourth, fifth and sixth place will be felicitated.
Table tennis tourney: Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valacchil and NMAM Institute of Technology won the first place in the table tennis tournament in men’s and women’s category, for Mangaluru zone of Visvesvaraya Technological University, organised by the Shree Devi Institute of Technology recently.
The runner’s up team are Madhwa Vadiraj Institute of Technology and Management and MITE, Moodbidri resepctively.
A total of 145 students from 15 different colleges in the zone are participated in the table tennis tournament.
Bhaskar S Belegadde, Director of Physical Education, Mangaluru Zone-Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi and Professor Herald Fernandes, Principal of Mahesh College of Commerce and Management were the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony.
