Brain-dead boy’s kin donate his organs

Kundapura, Oct 10, 2016: It is reliably said that a 16-year-old Himaanshu Rao from Kundapura, who was declared brain-dead following a fatal accident, turned a life-saver by donating his organs.

He is the son of Dr Raviraj K Rao and Sujatha Rao. He was admitted to KMC Hospital in Manipal following a road accident on October 8 at 8.30 pm. He was declared brain-dead as per the protocol stipulated by the Transplantation of Human Organ Act 1994, by four senior doctors at 11.30 pm and the second declaration on brain-dead was pronounced on Oct 9, Sunday.

 Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi said there was no chance of him regaining conciousness. His breathing is presently supported by ventilator to enable harvest of organs for transplantation of cornea, kidney and liver. A zero traffic will be created for the transportation of the organs to the Mangaluru International Airport to be shifted to Bengaluru on Monday at 6 am.
