Manipal to host special lectures by eminent professors

Mangaluru, Oct 12, 2016: It is reported that, Centre for Gandhian and Peace Studies and Department of Geopolitics and International Relations of Manipal University, Manipal will jointly organise three special lectures by three eminent professors- Prof Mridula Mukherjee and Prof Aditya Mukherjee on October 12 and Prof Mark Lindley on October 13. The lectures will be held at LH 1, first floor, Old TAPMI building behind Manipal post-office.

On October 12, Prof Mridula Mukherjee, Professor of Modern Indian History, Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, will speak on, "Nationalism: Different Shades in Indian National Movement" at 5 pm. This will be followed by the lecture on "The Gandhian Model of Social Transformation" by Prof Aditya Mukherjee, Professor of Contemporary History Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Prof Mridula Mukherjee’s areas of interest include agrarian history, peasants’ movements, Indian national movement and Gandhi. Prof Aditya Mukherjee’s areas of interest include political economy of development since 20th century, contemporary economy and politics. Both have been the editors of Sage series in modern Indian history and selected works of Jawaharlal Nehru.

On October 13, Prof Mark Lindley, the polymath scholar on Gandhian thought from United States, will speak on "Ecological economics: a need of the present", again at 5 pm in the same place in Manipal University. Prof Lindley is also an expert on the history of Gandhian economic thought, and has authored a book on the life and work of the legendary economist.
