Hobli-level sports meet, 35 schools in city participate

Mangaluru, oct 3,2016: At least  35 schools from city took part in the day-long Mangaluru hobli-level high school sports tournament at Mangala stadium in Mangaluru on Wednesday, Nov 2.  The sports meet was jointly organised by the Department of Education in association with St Joseph’s High School, Kulshekar.

Addressing the participating students after hoisting the flag and inaugurating the sports tournament, Holy Cross Church Parish Priest Rev Victor Machado said that one can be healthy by taking part in sports activities. The events like ’kreedotsava’ help students develop enthusiasm.

The sports torch was handed over to Rev Machado and the sports flame was lit at the sports ground. Sports oath was administered to the students. Education Department Physical Education Inspector Lily Pais explained the purpose of organising the tournament.

Results / Winners : Shibani Shetty (Gerosa school), Thanushree (Capitanio school) and Likitha (St Joseph’s school) won the first, second and third place respectively in the 100 m race for girls while Suhas Alva (Cascia), Saurab (Chinmayi) and Cliyon D’Silva (Sacred Heart) won the first, second and third places respectively in the boys 100 m race category.

Other events at the tourney included 800 m race, triple jump, discuss throw, high jump and long jump among other events.

Youth Empowerment and Sports Department Deputy Director Pradeep D’Souza, Kulshekhar Church Assistant Priests Anil Lobo and Prakash D’Souza, Church Parish Council Vice President Praveen Patrao, Nodal officer Silvia Ruth Castelino, St Joseph’s High School Headmistress Sunita D’Souza and Primary School Headmistress Sr Rita Felcy were present among others. It was well organised and patronised.
