Mangaluru, Nov 11, 2016: It is reported that KRUPA, ’All Karnataka Rubber Planters’ Association’ will organise a conference of rubber growers of Karnataka at Jain Bhavan, Bappalige, bypass road, Puttur, today Nov 11.
Government of India Rubber Board Chairman Ajith Kumar will inaugurate the conference at 11 am. KRUPA president Col Nitteguttu Sharath Bhandray said the concerns of the planters such as fall in rubber prices and related issues will be discussed in the meet.
Current annual demand for natural rubber in the world in 11 million tonnes. India is the fifth largest producer of natural rubber after Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and China. India’s annual demand of rubber is about 15 lakh tonnes, out of which demand of natural rubber is about 10 lakh tonnes.
In Karnataka, rubber is being grown on 55,000 hectares of land, spread over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu districts. There are 85 Rubber Producer’s Societies (RPSs) under four Regional Rubber Board Officers at Mangaluru, Puttur, Kundapura and Shivamogga, he said.
KRUPA secretary P Gopalakrishna Bhat and Rubber Board Development Officer Balakrishna were present at the press meet.
