Mangaluru, Nov 23, 2016: The  SDMC, School Development and Monitoring Committee of Government DK ZP Higher Primary School Kemmara in Hirebandadi, has accused the assistant cook of the school of not maintaining cleanliness and serving poor quality midday meals to children.  The school SDMC, at Kemmara in Hirebandadi, has urged the Hirebandadi Gram panchayat to terminate and appoint a proper assistant cook.

The schoolchildren had complained to the SDMC that cleanliness standards were overlooked by the assistant cook. Students had earlier reported to have found hair and stones in the food.  Following the incident, most children had stopped having midday meals at the school, the SDMC said in its complaint.

However, school Headmistress Jayashri refuted the charges levelled on the assistant cook and said, "The cooks had been preparing food under hygienic conditions and children and teachers had been eating the same." She said that a few students rejected the food at the behest of committee members.

Assistant cook Usha S Rai is reported to have stated that she has been the assistant cook for the past 13 years here and has maintained hygiene standards all along." She said false charges had been levelled against her due to some misunderstandings.
