Udupi, Dec 30, 2016: The 10th Udupi Taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan would be held at the Pragati Soudha Hall near Ambalpady By-pass Road here on January 7. Madhavi S. Bhandary, writer, has been chosen the president of the sammelan.
Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Neelavar Surendra Adiga, president of the district unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, said that Chandrashekhar Kedlaya, artiste and retired teacher, would inaugurate the sammelan.
Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Services and Sports, would be among the chief guests at the inaugural function.
One of the highlights of the sammelan would be the several seminars. A seminar on the topic, “Women empowerment and reality”, would be held in the morning session. Sheela K. Shetty, writer and vice-president of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat, would preside over this session.
Y. Ravindranath Rao, former principal of SMS College, would present a paper on “Women and contemporary issues”, while Nayan M. Pakkal, lecturer, MSRS College, Shirva, would deliver a lecture on “Women in political field”.
Chandraprabha Hegde, retired principal, would speak on the “Role of women in family matters”.
The afternoon session would focus on “Mass media and social responsibility”. Vasanth Kumar Perla, Station Director, All India Radio, Mangaluru, would preside over this session.
Astro Mohan, photojournalist, would speak on print media, while Jayakar Suvarna, journalist, will speak on visual media. Soumya Holla, lecturer, Mahesh PU College, would speak on social networking sites.
In addition to these seminars, there would be cultural programmes at the sammelan.
Niketana, writer and Associate Professor, Tenkanidiyur Government First Grade College and Post-Graduate Centre, would deliver the valedictory address of the sammelan at 4 p.m.
Shobha Karandlaje, MP, and Dinakar Babu, president of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat, would be among the chief guests at the valedictory session.
As many as eight eminent persons and two organisations would be felicitated for their contribution to different fields during the sammelan.
They are: Gopal Shetty (literature), G.K. Srinivas Rao (education), Bhaskarananda Kumar (medicine and literature), Upadhyaya Moodubelle (art), Vishnu Shetty Ambalpady and Vanaja Poojarti (social service), Shyamraya Havanje (Nalike) and Baburaya Acharya (organic farming).
The two organizations are Veeranjaneya Vyayama Shale, Uppoor, and Kalavrunda, Udupi, Mr. Adiga said.
