Areca nut merchant robbed at gun point of Rs 5 lakh cash

Jan 24, 2017: It is reported that a group of dacoits waylaid and robbed an areca nut merchant at gun point of Rs 5 lakh cash that he was carrying at Aivarnadu under Bellare police station limits in Sullia taluk on Jan 23, Monday. The businessman - Abdul Khader was on his way to a shop at Guttigaru from his residence at Bellare when the gang that came in an SUV intercepted the car that he was driving at a desolate spot, some four-kms from his residence and made a quick getaway with the cash.

Bhushan Gulabrao Borase,, superintendent of police, who visited the crime scene said the gang who intercepted merchant Khader’s vehicle quickly surrounded the car and threatened with a pistol and knives. They also took away the mobile phones that Khader and his co-passengers were carrying with them. The occupants who were shell-shocked at the rough and sudden manner in which they were robbed failed to note details of the getaway vehicle.
