Mangaluru, March 2, 2017:The police have arrested four persons and are investigating the involvement of right wing organisation members in arson in the office of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on February 22 near here.
Banners and other articles in the office of the CPI(M) in Thokkottu near Ullal were burnt three days before the visit of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to the city for the party’s communal harmony meet on February 25.
CPI(M) activists have accused right wing group members of orchestrating the incident in the light of the hartal call given by Sangh Parivar organisations.
The police have arrested Rakshit (24) from Ullal and his friend Dikshit (26), who work as bouncers in Bengaluru. Rakshit and Dikshit are said to be involved in three criminal cases registered with the Ullal police. The police have also arrested their accomplices Binny (21) and Manoj (26).
According to Ullal police, Rakshit and Dikshit are members of the Bhagat Singh Club, a rival to a club located near the CPI(M) office in Thokkottu. .
Having come to the city to attend a court hearing in the first week of February, Rakshit and Dikshit stayed back in Ullal. The accused, meanwhile, carried out the act in a way that the blame lay on the members of their rival club. The police got to know of the involvement of the accused by going through the CCTV footage from shops and business establishments in the vicinity.
The Ullal police are on the lookout for those who instigated Dikshit and three other accused persons to set fire to the CPI(M) office. A special team has been formed to arrest the remaining accused.
