Mangaluru, Mar 17,2017: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has reduced fares on its Mangaluru-Bhatkal Volvo bus services and increased the frequency of buses.
These buses are being operated from the State Bank bus terminal in Mangaluru. The evening service from Mangaluru (4.15 p.m.) goes up to Murdeshwar, and the next day heads back at 7 a.m. The bus services will not extend till Manipal as announced earlier and will, instead, ply directly between Udupi and Kundapur.
The fares
The fare between Mangaluru and Bhatkal has been reduced to Rs. 200 from Rs. 225, while the fare between Mangaluru and Kundapura has gone from Rs. 160 to Rs. 150, as per the directions of KSRTC chairman and Byndoor MLA Gopal Poojary. The fare between Udupi and Bhatkal is Rs. 125 and that between Udupi and Byndoor is Rs. 100, sources said.
The transport corporation has added two more buses to the fleet, taking the total number of buses on the Mangaluru-Bhatkal route to eight. The Volvo buses will depart the State Bank terminal at 7.15 a.m., 8.15 a.m., 9.15 a.m., 10.15 a.m., 10.45 a.m., 11.15 a.m., 11.45 a.m., 12.15 p.m., 3.15 p.m., 4.15 p.m., 5.15 p.m. and 6.45 p.m. From Bhatkal, they will depart at 6.40 a.m., 7 a.m., 7.30 a.m., 8 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., 2.30 p.m., 3 p.m., 3.30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. It takes about three hours to cover the distance.
