Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, July 08, 2017: Reports say that the Udupi unit of Viswha Buntara Yane Nadavara Janajagriti Balaga has demanded that the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) stick to its original decision and get the Lighthouse Hill Road,  from Catholic Club to Ambedkar Circle renamed after the founder of Vijaya Bank, the late Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty.

St. Aloysius College is located on the road and the CPI(M) had opposed the government decision to rename the road.

Aroor Thimappa Shetty, convener of the Balaga, told reporters,  that no one had pressured the MCC to name the road after Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty, known in both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts for his contributions and secular outlook.

The road was to be renamed after Shetty on July 2. But some forces created confusion and the matter has been put on hold, the convenor said.
