Kudla’s ‘Viji’ to enter films in a Mollywood debut

Mangaluru, Aug 23,2017: Mangalurean Vijayalakshmi Ratheeshan aka Viji, who bagged the ’Mrs Global 2017 - God’s Own Country’ and many other titles in India and abroad, is all set to enter Mollywood. Viji began her journey as a dancer in educational institutions of Mangaluru and that helped her reach her destination - Mollywood, as an actor in a Malayalam movie.


Having a strong bond with Tulunadu, Viji did her primary and higher education at Canara Instititions in the city. She later pursued her B Pharm from Nitte Gulabi Shetty Memorial Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. In fact, her parents C S Nambiar and Vasanthi Nambiar of Kannur district in Kerala, have settled in this coastal city about 50 years ago. After doing B Pharm, Viji tied nuptial knot with Ratheeshan of Vellikoth near Kanhangad in Kerala and left for Dubai along with her husband.


Ratheeshan is a business development manager in NMC Healthcare, owned by Mangalurean NRI businessman B R Shetty, in Dubai. Viji too worked as a QA manager in a ship building company in Dubai. Winning the Mrs Global 2017 - God’s Own Country title helped Viji enter Mollywood, where she has already found a prominent role in a yet to be released movie directed by Haridas.

Meanwhile, she also has been offered roles in three more Malayalam movies. Ratheeshan told TOI that the shooting of Theneechayum Peerangippadayum, is already completed and it is expected to hit screens in November. "In the meantime, Viji also has got offers from three more filmmakers," Ratheeshan said. Viji, who is in discussion with Mollywood filmmakers, plans to visit her institutes in Mangaluru, Ratheeshan said. Mrs Global 2017 - God’s Own Country contest conducted by Espanio Events in Kochi on May 20 changed the life of Viji. Winning ’May Queen 2004’ at a beauty event conducted by Indian Social Centre in Abu Dhabi was another milestone.


Viji has also won the ’Super Mom’ title at Global Village this year by presenting a dance along with nine-year- old daughter Samreen. Recently, she also received applause after being show stopper at the India Fashion League held on August 2 at Kochi, Ratheeshan said adding that Viji is eyeing assignments in ’coastalwood and sandalwood’ too.
