Hearing on maintainability of private complaint today

Mangaluru, Sep 28,2017: The II Judicial Magistrate First Class Court here will today sept 28, Thursday, hear the issue of maintainability of the private complaint by the former Karnataka Beary Academy Chairman Rahim Uchil against Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment B. Ramanath Rai.

Chairman Uchil filed the private complaint accusing Minister Rai of defaming Yuva Brigade leader Chakavarthi Sulibele during his speech at a Congress convention in Asaigoli near Mangaluru on September 22.

The court was looking at maintainability of the petition against Minister Rai, who is a public servant. Section 197 of the Criminal Procedure Code bars prosecution of judges and public servants, except for previous sanction from the government.

Following initial hearing, the Magistrate posted for further hearing.  As counsel for the complainant sought further time, the Magistrate posted the case for today, Sept 28,Thursday.
