Mangaluru, Oct 22, 2017: The Lokayukta court has sentenced a police constable to one year imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him after finding him guilty of accepting bribe.
Justice Muralidhar Pai of the the third district and sessions court announced the quantum of punishment to police constable Sunil Kumar, 30, attached to the Moodbidri police station, for accepting bribe from a businessman.
Kumar was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000 from diamond merchant B M A Jaleel to not name him in the Suryamani pearls case. Kumar was suspended in 2012.
The then Lokayukta inspector Uday Nayak had caught Kumar red-handed. Special prosecutor K S N Rajesh had represented the Lokayukta in the case.
