Mangaluru, Oct 29, 2017: Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has said that the administration was contemplating a ban on sand transportation from Dakshina Kannada to other districts.
Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, the Deputy Commissioner said as per the present estimates the district needed 1.9 million metric tonnes of sand. It is planned to ban sand transport to other districts to ensure there is no shortage of the sand in the district, he said and informed that a decision would be taken after deliberations.
The permit for sand extraction in areas outside CRZ would be shortly issued and the process is underway. The tender process would be held transparently, he informed.
This year 40 sand extraction permits have been given in CRZ areas in the first phase. A maximum of 100 more permits could be given, he added.
