Mangaluru, September 26, 2024: Mangalore social circles are admirers of Dr.Michael Lobo of Bijay, his popularity has spread the world over for his documentation/publications and providing information on history, genealogical and so on. His works have brought him recognition wherever Mangalore origin folk are there in many parts of the world .

Dr Michael Lobo is  a respected scientist, writer, historian and genealogist of the Konkani Catholic Community he needs no introduction .  His sacrifice for the Konkani Community world wide is appreciated. This great man now is rarely seen and never honoured duly by our society. My attention was drawn to the latest of his many  books : ’Memories To Treasure’. The last few months, after the death of his brother he has immersed himself to do this tribute book,  indeed a treasure of 100 pages (A4), printed on glossy art paper with deep information and 120 plus antique photographs and diagrams etc which will capture even a person who is not familiar with the family or Mangalorean ethos.   The book cover depicts his two younger brothers who passed on, the contents and many pictures are of local families, which provide an insight into the larger community as such. A few pages on mathematical interests and Music/pop songs & singers give the simple book a wholesome shape.

Today one feels that family and kindred spirit is gone? This is partially true perhaps; yet it exists deep inside the human psyche by a flame kept permanently alive by the Supreme. The practicality of larger families living together in the spirit and manner of times gone by is simply not possible and practicable given the essential demands of the modern and AI age.  Siblings’ care of parents is today a different matter altogether and the shape is far from what was and will be. Siblings and kith and kin are isolated and separated from each other but have not become hardened or diluted; real time factors and life’s cares and responsibilities cause  warped images. There is no doubt as far as practically visible that most who do well are ever ready to support and care for their kith and kin by providing for it in the spirit of duty and generosity.

Dr.Michael in his work and writings, has always put community, culture and family in a priority, value and respect in every possible measure. This fact clearly surfaced in his work for historic CASK (Catholic Association of South Kanara) a decade ago and even in the reshaping of  "Mangalore" magazine which gave it a shiny valued reputation and demand.  The latest of his many Books now, ’Memories To Treasures" amply sums up the inner sentiments and feelings the true underlying spirit of many of this community of Konkanis of Mangalore and a wide cross section of humanity - circumstances and vagaries of human life in todays crime ridden and psychologically sick politics and commerce are the great hurdles. The underlying compassionate caring human is always there and will be.

It is no doubt that every member of the community and others interested must be aware of Dr.Micheal Lobo’s life and work for the larger community and read some of his writings as well.  He expressly invites all concerned to get in touch with him for this latest book : "Memories To Treasure"  which will prove along with his many books  truly valuable treasure.
