Mangalore, March 31: Bored of the coloured cool drinks and beverages with dangerous class II preservatives! Thinking of going natural? Then why not try the special Bonda-Lime drink that’s both tasty and healthy?
Bonda is nothing but the Tulu word for tender coconut. The Bonda-Lime drink is served with drops of lemon juice squeezed in it. Here is a small shop, situated right opposite to Vamanashram building at Carstreet where you can taste this special drink. This family business of Bonda-Lime is carried further by Prashanth Shenoy after the demise of his elder brother Vinayak Shenoy who introduced this drink to Mangaloreans 25 years ago.
Prashanth, an employee at Ruchi Soya Industries, makes time for this business to fulfill his late brother’s dream. He believes that bonda-lime is the best way to encourage people to drink tender coconut more and it also can be served chill further enhancing its taste while providing good competition to the preservative added soft drinks. It has also become a trend to serve this drink on various occasions including birthday parties.
Bonda-lime is chilled tender coconut water, containing coconut malai cut into small pieces, with the touch of lime juice and served in a tall plastic glass.
Prashanth’s shop not just serves bonda-lime juice, but also various other kinds of juices. Worshipping items are also available here. The shop opens at 9.30 am and continues till 10.30 in the night, making it very convenient for the permanent customers and others to come along with their family to relish Bonda-Lime.

Bonda water contains small amounts of protein. The percentage of arginine, alanine, cystine and serene in the protein of tender coconut (bonda) water are higher than those in cow’s milk. Since it does not contain any complex protein the danger of producing shock to the patients is minimised. Cheers Latha....... | |
