What made a reality show winner mentally ill?

Mangalore Today News Network

RajeshMysore, Jul 13, 2012: The nouveau riche among his tribe, suddenly flush with money indeed led to his ruin, resulting in losing mental balance.

It may read like a script, but that’s exactly what happened in the case of reel hero Rajesh.

Hailing from the land of tribes in Balle forest in H D Kote taluk in the district, the prize money of Rs 10 lakh he won in ‘Halli Hyda Pyateg Banda,’ a reality show aired by a private Kannada channel got into his head. He also landed the role of a hero in yet to be released Kannada movie- Jungle Jackie.

The result, a youth short-tempered by nature and  known for pranks and loving to show-off, Rajesh became a spendthrift. He splurged on treating his friends, besides buying a motorbike and also TV and generator.

Besides filling the mobike’s tank, he was carrying a can of petrol on the back of the two-wheeler, only to fill the tank soon after it got emptied.

Manandavadi in the neighbouring Kerala state became too near to him to travel daily, thanks to the newly bought vehicle.

Always mingling with the boys younger than him, Rajesh was infamous for picking up quarrels. Not only that, his mischievous act was also known to  the staff at the hospital in nearby Sargur.

The reason- he was making hoax calls saying somebody is ill in the hamlet asking for ambulance service.

Rajesh didn’t listen to his father’s words to save money for the future. It is believed that Rajesh who did not receive the payment for the jungle Jacky film in which he was a hero and the failure of the film producers to release the film as to yet, coupled with financial problems had led to his present state.

Now, he is admitted at the psychiatric ward of K R Hospital in the city for treatment for the past two days.
