Mangaluru, April 20, 2017: Drug abuse is the bane of the present generation. At a time when everyone is cracking their heads on how to eradicate this evil, comes the man of the moment: Dr G Shreekumar Menon. A distinguished IRS officer of 1978 batch, he retired recently as Director General at the National Academy of Customs, Excise & Narcotics (NACEN), Faridabad. Dr. Menon is an ace Counter Narcotics Specialist who has trained hundreds of officers of the Indian Customs, Narcotics Control Bureau and Central Bureau of Narcotics. Presently, he is the Registrar of Yenepoya University, Mangaluru.
Dr Menon who hails from Ernakulam in Kerala, holds an M.A. & L.L.B. Degree apart from a Doctorate in Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances from Mangalore University. As an IRS officer, he has served the customs in various capacities in Mangaluru, Bengaluru, Goa, Chennai, Kolkata and other places. He has also held the prestigious post of Director General Multi-Disciplinary School of Economic Intelligence, Mumbai. A much sought after guest faculty on Narcotics, Narco-Terrorism and Money Laundering, military and defence subjects at national and international fora, Dr Menon is also a prolific writer.
He is now harnessing his extensive experience in this field by spearheading Mission Angel Dust, a massive awareness drive against drug abuse aimed at educating students, parents and teachers. He has been organizing various activities throughout the year under this banner, which is supported by Yenepoya University under Yenepoya Narcotics Educational Foundation of India.
