Mangalure, May 20, 2015: Mangaluru is proud of this distinguished scientist and researcher who has a wealth of experience in developing biotechnologies in the area of diagnostics and health management. The National Technology Award conferred on her by the Government recently is a new feather in her cap.
Prof. Indrani Karunasagar, a senior scientist of international repute and Dean of Faculty of Bio-Medical Sciences and Director, R&D at at Nitte University is a down to earth lady who has won a number of admirers for her incredible research works. Prof. Indrani who is a former head of the Department of Microbiology in the College of Fisheries , Mangaluru is presently also the Director of UNESCO Microbial Resources Center, Paris and Advisor, International Foundation for Science, Sweden.
At Nitte University where she is presently serving, Prof. Indrani has introduced various new courses at Masters and Ph.D level during the current year and plans to introduce courses in Environmental Biotechnology and Toxicology, Molecular Medicine and Cancer Genetics from 2016-17. She is the only Indian Member of the international jury for UNESCO Life Science Prize for research and social relevance.
A recipient of several awards including Biotechnology Product and Process Development Award and Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award, UNESCO Biotechnology Award, Dr M S Swaminathan Award and Outstanding Woman Scientist Award of ICAR, she is also a regular visiting Professor to the University of Wuerzburg in Germany. Prof. Indrani has travelled extensively to attend conferences, to chair sessions, to deliver plenary lectures and participate in workshops and symposia all over the world.
With over 150 research papers to her credit, she has trained nearly 60 postgraduate and doctoral students who have now excelled in their fields.
