Mangaluru, Oct 30, 2021: When Mariamma who hails from Noojibaltila in Puttur taluk recently received the prestigious National Florence Nightingale Award, it was a matter of immense joy for the entire district. Presently serving as a Senior Primary Health Officer at Koila, Mariamma’s selfless service with utmost dedication and professionalism had earned her this highest national acclaim for a nurse.
Right since her younger days, Mariamma always had an innate desire to serve the needy, True to her passion, she pursued an Auxiliary Nursing & Midwifery (ANM) course and is a graduate of the 1987 batch of Wenlock Hospital.
Her first stint was as a Junior Health Assistant at the Belthangady Taluk General Hospital. She later served the Nandagudi Primary Health Centre a Hosakote for nearly two decades and was promoted as Senior Primary Health Officer. Presently, she is posted at Koila PHC.
Mariamma had played an instrumental role in successful implementation and overseeing of several health programmes by the National Rural Health Mission and has also the credit of conducting over 500 successful deliveries.
She has earlier adjudged ‘Best Health Assistant’ in 2007 and was recognised for operating the ‘Best Sub Centre’ in 2011 by the state government under NHRM.
Mariamma is married to Umesh, a lab technician by profession and the couple is blessed with a son.
