Mangaluru, Feb 2, 2017: Those were the years when Lawrence Coelho was passionately involved in various activities in Mumbai. He yearned to involve in social outreach, and participated in serious initiatives. He gradually focused on publications. It gripped his imagination and thereafter publishing triggered his venture into entrepreneurship. He started ‘The Secular Citizen’ in 1990, and three years later yet another venture through the establishment of ’Divo’ a magazine in Konkani, which incidentally was earlier hand composed.
Lawrence Coelho, hails from Inna village in Udupi. After elementary education in Mangalore he moved to Bombay and completed his graduation. The rest is history. The cosy office of Lawrence in South Mumbai is a place visited by many Mangalureans for information. He has no journalistic background, despite that it is amazing that he is the Founder-Owner-Publisher all rolled in one.
He is also the Founder of Royal Christian Family Organisation. Several awards have been bestowed on him including Ashirwad Award and Dr. Harivanshrai Bachhan Award for Journalism. It’s a matter of pride that a publication by a member of the Kanara Christian community has reached its 25th milestone.
