Beckoning Youth to Armed Forces

Mangalore, Sept 19, 2014: At a time when many a youngster have a second thought on joining the Armed Forces, here is a veteran who is trying to motivate the younger generation to take a look at the Armed Forces as their first career option and their parents to shed reservations if any in this regard. The reference here is to Retired Air Vice Marshal K R Karnik who has a distinguished track record in the Air Force.

Air Vice Marshal K R KarnikHailing from Kervashe in Karkala taluk, Karnik pursued his B.Com at Bhuvanendra College, Karkala and later on did an MMS course from Osmania University, short course in  financial management from The ICAI, New Delhi and Long Defence Management Course (LDMC) from College of Defence Management, Secunderabad.

He began his career as a teacher in Government High School, Hebri  and later served the office of the C&AG before joining the Indian Air Force in 1968. During 1971 war, he was posted in Assam, while during the Kargil war he was at the Air Force headquarters holding the office of Director, Air Force Welfare Funds.

Air Vice Marshal Karnik  was also on deputation as the Controller of Accounts in the Ministries of HRD and Personnel before reverting to IAF. At the time of retirement, he was in- charge of IAF budget and advisor to the Chief of Air Staff on financial matters. His better half too served many Army Schools as a teacher.

Post retirement he  served the Justice KS Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte for 7 years and presently is Professor Emeritus at his alma mater Bhuvanendra College. Upon any invitation, Air Vice Marshal (retd) Karnik also loves visiting schools to motivate youngsters to join Armed Forces.
