Dr HR Vishwas - Sanskrit Scholar

Mangalore, Nov 4, 2013: Sanskrit- the mother of all languages deserves much attention and patronage at a time  when not many are keen to learn this language. Seen as a ray of hope at this juncture is Dr HR Vishwas, an eminent Sanskrit scholar.

Dr H R VishwasHailing from Shringeri, but settled in Mangalore, Vishwas’s yeoman contributions towards promoting Sanskrit has earned him accolades. As  the Akhila Bharatiya Prashikshana Pramukh of Sanskrita Bharathi  he has been striving hard to  promote Sanskrit.In his efforts  towards this direction, he has  even authored and translated several works into Sanskrit.

A noted analyst of Sanskrit literature, Dr Vishwas is known for translation of  SL Bhairappa’s controversial work ‘Avarana’ to Sanskrit. This work won him the Kendra Sahitya Academy Award for Translation in 2010. The Academy’s prestigious Bala Sahitya Puraskar for the year 2013, has also come his way.

Some of his works include  ‘Matte Hottitu Heebru Hanate’, ‘Apashchimaha pashchime’ ‘Pididu Samskrita Sootrava’ ‘Hemacchakatika’ etc in Samskrit and in Kannada. His ‘Koushala Bhodhinee’ is a popular handbook for Sanskrit teachers.He has even been a columnist with Hosa Digantha and his column ‘Sangata’ was widely appreciated.

Dr Vishwas is happily married to  Dr Shanthala who has been constantly supporting his endeavours.
