Mangalore, May 27, 2014: Dr. Sharanappa Dhage, Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of Police, is a straightforward officer who comes from a humble background. His is a story of  a simple village boy who has climbed the ladders of success. He aims to add a touch of professionalism to the services of the department  and promises not to get bogged down by pressure from any corner.

Hailing from  Khajuri in Aland taluk of Gulbarga district, Sharanappa is the son of Sridevi and Shivanand, a marginal farmer. After his initial education in a local government school, he joined the Jawahar Navodaya Residential School at Shahapur, He completed his post graduation at Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, Coimbatore, and earned his PhD in genetics and plant breeding from Indian Agriculture Research, New Delhi. Right through his education, the scholarships he won ensured his parents were not burdened. It was during his work for doctoral thesis that Sharanappa decided to give a try in UPSC. The young man without thinking twice applied and prepared for the exams on his own. Though success eluded him in his first attempt, his second try in 2008 was worth it and he  came out in flying colours securing the  86th rank.

While on probation at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad, he was adjudged the Second Best All Round IPS Probationer. An IPS officer of 2009 batch, he  has served as a probationary officer in Tumkur, ASP in Sagar and interim SP in Gadag before being posted in Mangalore. His tenure in Gadag was memorable when three police stations earned the ISO 9001:2008 certification for people friendly policing.

As SP of DK he has plans to draw up strategies to tackle Naxalism and to resolve growing number of unsolved crime cases. Good Luck to you Sir.
