Mumbai, Nov 18, 2020: Mumbai Police has issued a fresh notice to Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel to be present before Bandra police station. Kangana has been asked to appear on November 23 and Rangoli on November 24 over "objectionable comments" on social media aimed at spreading communal tension.
This is the third time Mumbai police have asked the actor to appear before the Bandra police in the matter. Earlier, summons were issued to the sister two times. The first time, they responded saying there is a wedding function at home. Kangana Ranaut’s lawyer, Rizwan Siddiquee, had sent a reply to the police station stating that the sisters are in Himachal Pradesh where they are busy with wedding preparations and on-going functions in their hometown of their younger brother.
Later, Mumbai police had again issued the second notice to Kangana Ranaut and Rangoli Chandel on November 3 and ordered them to appear before it on November 10. However, no response was received over this summon.
Why are Kangana Ranaut and her sister summoned?
Both the sisters have been booked for allegedly promoting enmity between communities through their remarks on social media.
In October, a Mumbai court had asked the police to lodge an FIR against Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel for allegedly trying to create communal tension with their provocative tweets.
The order was passed by the Bandra metropolitan magistrate Jaydeo Y Ghule passed the order on October 16, based on a complaint filed by casting director Sahil Ashrafali Sayyed.
